Here We Go Again

Mailed at 4:49 pm  EST February 9, 2009.

This is my second letter to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. I hope it is sufficiently polite to receive a response in fewer than 40 days.

Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński,                                                                                         Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum                                                                     Oswiecim, Poland

Dear Dr. Cywiński,

I am writing to request confirmation from you that you are aware of recent developments in the matter of former Auschwitz prisoner #61016, Dina Babbitt and her request that the Auscwitz-Birkenau State Museum comply with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 17.2) as adopted and proclaimed on Dec. 10, 1948, by respecting her right to possession of her property which is currently in the custody of your Museum.

This document, and the UNESCO sponsored International Council of Museums’ Code of Ethics for Museums, disallows previously stated reasons for the arbitrary denial of Mrs. Babbitt’s Human Rights and for the confiscation by the Museum of her Gypsy Portraits.

I trust this matter has been brought to your attention already.

Unfortunately, I have had no response to any inquiry in this matter. Therefore, I must ask you if you are aware of these developments and when I might hope to learn that the artwork in question is being deaccessioned by the Museum and returned to its rightful owner.

I thank you for your attention in this matter, and I look forward to receiving a reply from you soon.

Very Sincerely,

Tim Thibeault
